One Verse for One Photo
Hello friends, Samm Bennett here. Little do we know it, but many of us in the big cities interact in various poignant, humorous and unexpected ways with the advertising images that surround us. I like to capture these fleeting moments photographically, and have documented hundreds of such accidental interactions over the years here in my adopted hometown of Tokyo. You can view many more of them here at my Flickr photo album: Chance Encounters.
I've recently decided to add another dimension to some of these photos, by penning single verses for each of them. Hope you enjoy.
Oh, and... should you wish to support the art, music, photography, curated galleries, etc that I present here at the website, please consider making a patronly donation, if you're able. However small! You can use the PayPalMe link HERE. Thanks so much!

I was on my way, to my job at the bank
t'was a typical morning, you see when I found myself in a bright new world with a young lady beckoning me there were flowers and fruits and bubbles and clouds this was paradise, oh yes, for sure and to leave her and go to the bank once again it was more, more than I could endure |
you told me you had no time for me baby
but that was a lie, yes that was a lie you know that you could've made time for me baby but you didn't try, no you didn't try I waited and waited for far too long now you're finally coming around listen now to my footsteps walking away you'll have to get used to that sound |
been climbing these stairs all my life, little darling
climbing, and now I've grown old and there's just one thing i'd like to ask you, my darling i'll ask, if I may be so bold one simple gesture, one simple act one wish that I have, I won't lie please kiss me just once, on the forehead, my darling kiss me just once, 'fore I die |
we're marching, yes we're marching
we're all marching off to war dunno when it started or when it'll end don't know what we're fighting for but they've told us to go kill the enemy and our fingers are firm on the trigger and if life's like a Hollywood movie, we'll win cause our guns, as we know, are much bigger |
you try, yes you do, to tempt me, sweet woman
all decked out in silk and in lace but there's something about you that smells like a lie it's as clear as the paint on your face so dangle your undies above me, my dear but I will not be swayed by such charms got a woman at home and she loves me just right and I'll soon be wrapped up in her arms |
I know that I could never
could never be your man but baby there's just one thing that I hope you'll understand just one request I have of you, my dear, if you'll allow I'll come right out and say it, I'll say it to you now let me put my phone on your collarbone let me put my phone on your collarbone then I wouldn't feel so sad and alone let me put my phone on your collarbone |
i fell fast asleep on the train
and I dreamed about two groovy chicks they ate ice cream sandwiches, then in the dream the sandwiches turned into bricks they bit into the bricks and their teeth started crumbling and then I woke up with a fright I'd missed my stop, I was on the last train I stayed Kunitachi that night |
when I was a young man I had lots of girls
I'd take 'em out dancing, we'd shimmy and swirl I loved 'em in summer, spring winter and fall I tried hard to please 'em, each one girl and all and now that I'm old, their faces I see I look at the girls, and the girls look at me yes friend, I'm old now, and my song's almost sung but in my mind's eye, ah the girls are still young |
