Samm Bennett solo videos:
songs using the balafon The balafon is a type of African xylophone, going by many different names according to the various musical cultures across the continent where it is found. My solo percussion performances of the late 1970s and early 1980s regularly featured the balafon, but upon leaving Brussels, where I resided in 1983/84, I gave my balafon to a friend. In March of 2011, I came upon a balafon at a friend's house on Awaji Island, near Kobe, Japan, where he and his family were taking temporary refuge from the Fukushima nuclear disaster, and recorded two videos using the fine old balafon there. Perhaps there will be more balafon videos coming in the months ahead, whenever I can get my hands on one, as it is still an instrument dear to my heart. |
