COMMUNISTS FROM OUTER SPACE
Communists From Outer Space is the trio unit of Samm Bennett (vocal and electric drums) Tabata Mitsuru (electric guitar) and
Cal Lyall (electric guitar). This band of unrepentant Marxist rabble rousers delivers a punchy, rocking, intergalactic message of collective sonic bliss. Samm's drumming, whether a bluesy shuffle, a hypnotic Afrodisco, a funky tumble or a whipcrack backbeat, forms a solid grid within which Cal's inventive rhythm guitar work weaves and bobs and punctuates with chicken-picken pointillism and rapid-fire snap-crackle-pop. Tabata-san's amazing six-string sorcery then fills things up to the brim with all manner of psychedelic washes, wondrous wah-wah workouts and razor-sharp melodic excursions into the farthest reaches of the communist universe and back again, stopping at various points of interest along the way for some good old fashioned note-bending, tremolo ripples and whammy-pedal wizardry. Then Bennett's voice enters the fray, conjuring up all manner of spirits from the various worlds of the blues and the abstract truth. Sharing rhyming jokes with the local party apparatchiks or working the fields of the collective farms in your mind, Bennett's songs pour out of him like some blazing manifesto, crudely mimeographed and passed out on your local street corner by some wide-eyed true believer in economic equality for all, not to mention free beer. Sparks fly, trains rise up off their tracks and take off into the stratosphere. Empires fall, your baby leaves town, and all the while the Communists From Outer Space serenade you and all their fellow travelers, marching together toward the bright and shining new future that awaits us all.
