Eric Garner is dead
killed for selling loose cigarettes
paying for that with his life
man, that’s paying a hell of a debt 
who’d have thought that kind of crime 
would deserve being killed in the street 
death at the hands of the kind of cops
i hope none of us ever have to meet

now why on earth did he have to die 
what kind of country is this you gotta wonder 
where some little minor infraction 
can tear a family’s life asunder
life is way too cheap on the streets of New York

how can things like this still happen

there’s got to be a clear decision
that we won’t stand this kind of abuse
we can’t have uniformed criminals

you murder somebody you should go to jail
