Hello Friends, Samm Bennett here. For many years I've been an enthusiastic lover of the Etch-a-Sketch, the iconic drawing machine invented by André Cassagnes of France and later manufactured by the Ohio Art Company. The Etch A Sketch has a thick, flat gray screen in a red plastic frame. There are two white knobs on the front of the frame in the lower corners. Twisting the knobs moves a stylus that displaces aluminum powder on the back of the screen, leaving a solid line. The knobs create lineographic images. The left control moves the stylus horizontally, and the right one moves it vertically.

The Etch-a-Sketch I use for these portraits is a small "pocket version" from several years back. Apparently the newer "pocket version" has gotten smaller still, to the point of being rather difficult to work with, I'm told. Hopefully this older pocket version of mine will continue in good working order, as I'm looking forward to many more years of Etch-a-Sketch artistic endeavor.
NOTE: This and all the other galleries here at my website feature images or historical items I find worthy of interest in one way or another, and I hope you will find something(s) here that interest you as well. I spend a great deal of time collecting and compiling these materials, which you are free to enjoy at your leisure. Should you want to support me in these efforts, and/or my musical efforts which you'll find plenty of here at the website, I do hope you'll consider making a donation (however small!) via PayPal to help sustain these activities. The PayPalMe link is HERE. Thanks!
