Forsaken
most of the shops along Main street are shut down now
and boarded up growing through the cracks in the sidewalk you’ll see plenty of weeds and most everything that the people here could once hold onto has slipped away like broken string of beads my name is John, John Thomas Bradley and friend I spent my whole life in this town you wanna see a place that’s sure enough been forsaken buddy, all you got to do is look around years ago when the factory here was running this old town was a strong and prosperous place but when they closed the factory down weren’t no other jobs to be found the way the company abandoned us workers was a big disgrace we worked those assembly lines by day and by night and didn’t we make the company a nice big pile of loot and once they shut down the factory for good and sent all our jobs overseas the bosses retired with what you call a golden parachute they say that’s how it goes they say it can’t be helped it’s the invisible hand of the marketplace well ain’t that grand but the fellow who decided to shut down and move production to another country well i sure can see, anyone can plainly see his hand and as for me well i’m old now and like this town i’m just about finished somehow i get by on whatever crust of bread’s to be found the good people here deserved you know a whole lot better than what they got well anyway most the folks i knew here are now in the ground down in the ground down in the ground i reckon i’ll be there soon lord have mercy, forsaken |
