19:00 open - 19:30 start 2000 yen entry + 1 drink Samm and Uchihashi Kazuhisa have a long history of working together in improvised music formats, but this will be the first time in a rather long time that they've collaborated onstage. Uchihashi will be on guitar (with his extended effects moving the sound into unexpected timbral realms) and the amazing daxophone (the unique instrument invented by the late Hans Reichel). Samm will be on drums and electronics, with a touch of vocal here and there. Two old friends reunited, for two full sets of joyous noise unto your ears. |
FRI 7/4 : Bennett-Baku Stone Duo - 1st meeting
at Last Waltz, Shibuya, Tokyo
with the Yachioni band and the Marcos Fernandes / TOMO duo Baku Tsuzuki is a fantastically creative musician with a solid foundation in the blues, which he's effortlessly incorporated into his own idiosyncratic performance style. He's based in Osaka, so there haven't been nearly enough chances for he and Samm to work together, but on those occasions when they've had a chance, their styles have synched perfectly. Prior performances saw the two of them in a trio format along with tuba player Daysuke Takaoka, but this time around the Baku Bennett STONE DUO is on the program, with Samm on diddley bow bass and vocal. This show on the 4th as well as their other Tokyo appearance (at Boonies in Kameido, on the 12th) will feature a range of Samm's original songs, presented in a refreshing new combination. Also appearing that night is the percussion-intensive Yachioni band, and, excitingly, the Marcos Fernandes-TOMO Duo, with Marcos on percussion and TOMO on his amazing hurdy gurdy. Chances to hear the hurdy gurdy here in Tokyo are rare indeed, and TOMO has focussed all his musical energy on the instrument for the past several years: he is almost certainly Tokyo's number one hurdy gurdiest!
