July 2015 - Live shows by Samm Bennett & his various groups
TUE 7/7 : with PERE FURU (Kido Natsuki and Katsui Yuji)

at Powers 2, Kawasaki-shi, Kanagawa
open: 18:00 - start: 19:30
Pere Furu is the long-running duo project of guitarist
Kido Natsuki (also of Umezu Kazutoki's KIKI Band) and violinist Katsui Yuji (also of ROVO). They are superb improvisors who I've joined on several former occasions over the past few years, to great musical results! I'll be on drums and percussion and a bit of vocal, most likely. Come on down, should be a top night of improvisational endeavor!

SAT 7/11 : SOLO, plus Tabata Mitsuru - Kaneko Yuki DUO

at ENBAN, Koenji, Tokyo
2F Gorinkan Building, 3-59-11 Koenji,
Suginami-ku, Tokyo - TEL 03 5306 2937
near JR Koenji Station (Chuo/Sobu line), south exit
Start - 19:00 - ¥1500 entry(includes 1 drink)
I'll be doing a solo set of songs using the one string guitar,
(aka the diddley bow), plus a few other surprise instruments!
Tabata Mitsusru, of course, is one of Tokyo's busiest and
consistently creative guitarists, who plays in a plethora of
musical settings when he's not busy touring the world with
Acid Mother's Temple. Tonight he'll be joined by Kaneko Yuki
on Indian-style violin, in celebration of the recent release of
their CD. Rounding out the bill will be ペンと書物, whom I
know nothing about, but ENBAN usually books good and
interesting stuff, so, chances are it'll be good and/or interesting.

DIRECTIONS to ENBAN: Take the south exit of Koenji station,
turn right, and walk along the train tracks towards Asagaya
(tracks will be on your right). After a 2 or 3 minute walk, Enban
is on your left, in a building slightly set back from the street,
on the 2nd floor.

FRI 7/31 : SOLO (and perhaps accompanying poets) at Drunk Poets See God #30

at Bar Gari Gari, Ikenoue, Tokyo
(5.7 seconds from Ikenoue Station, Keio Inokashira line)
open 19:00 - start 19:30
500 yen entry
Yes friends, it's time for the 30th installment of DRUNK POETS SEE GOD, where some of Tokyo's most engaging wordsmiths get on the mic and show their stuff. Hosted by by Samm Bennett along with singer and poet Sorcha Chisolm, this is the place to be for those who want to get on the mic and take some of their original poetry and word work out for a test drive. And also for those, of course, who just want to listen. Samm is on hand to provide instantaneous musical backing to any poet who might happen to want it, and all are welcome to read, recite, intone, chant, grumble, shout or otherwise enunciate. Fun stuff, serious stuff, flights of fancy, hilarity, stream of consciousness, heaping helpings of free association and extended elocution. All for only a modest entry fee of 500 yen plus one drink. You'll probably want more than one, but one's all you gotta buy. Come early (opens at 7pm) to sign up for a slot!
And remember, if you want to present work that touches on this month's THEME, please do so! Remember, of course, that there is NO obligation to do so. Whatever you got for us, we're ready to hear. And the theme this month is: HIDE AND SEEK. Go nuts!
