FRI 7/13 : SOLO and TRIOS with "Hachi" Kasuga + special guest Yanachan
at La Cana, Shimokitazawa, Tokyo
entry: ¥3,300 - ¥3,500 + 1 drink
I'll be joining my dear old friend and legendary musician "Hachi" Kasuga" for an evening of songs: some of his, some of mine, some covers here and there, and some from our special guest, Yanachan. Last time Hachi and I got together for a duo show a few months back in Koenji, it was just a whole lotta fun, and I'm expecting this one will be as well.

SUN 7/15 : Bennett-Kuroda
as part of "TDM 1874 SUMMER"
at TDM 1874 Brewery, Yokohama
FREE entry, no music charge! Food & drink tickets just 500yen each
I'm really delighted to announce a new musical partnership with the very, very talented guitar maestro Daisuke Kuroda, lending his masterful 6-string artistry to your truly's 3-string strumming and singing. Daisuke's contributions are really fleshing out my songs in a very satisfying way. This will be only our second gig together, and it's happening, agreeably enough, at a craft beer festival! All RIGHT! BEER! We'll be playing sets off and on from around 5PM to 9PM, so come on out for some suds and sounds. Gonna be some kinda fried chicken eating contest going on too, I hear, which should go well with some of those *below-the-Mason-Dixon-Line* songs we're cooking up for you.

SUN 7/22 : KING CAKE BABY "Mardi Gras Sounds for Tokyo Town"
at Cuzn Homeground, Asakusa, Tokyo
16:00 ~ 22:00 - FREE entry (pass the hat for music)
For the LAST installment of our "4th Sunday Live" series, keyboard wiz Matt Gillan and yours truly on drums and vocals will be joined by our main bass-man-with-the-plan Hisayuki Nakase! Come on over to Asakusa for summa that good ol' New Orleans rhythm and blues, King Cake Baby style! Continuous sets, more or less, from 4PM to 10PM, in a funky, friendly, very international atmosphere. Over these past months we've had people from all over the globe at Cuzn Homeground listening and smiling, tapping their feet and getting up and SHAKING IT on the dancefloor! Don't MISS this last one, y'all, it's gonna be a party for sure.

SUN 7/29 : with Banda Choro Eletrico
at Praça Onze (Aoyama) Tokyo (near Omote-Sando station exit A3)
open:18:30 start:19:30 (2 sets) - entry: ¥2800 + order
BANDA CHORO ELETRICO is a big, ecstatic and totally grooving Brazilian music unit led by bassist and composer extraordinaire Sawada Jyoji. The full membership clocks in at about, oh, 15 musicians or so, and includes brilliant flutist Ogata Mitsuru and slamming drummer Numa Noaya. (Numa-san and Sawada-san happen to be members of The Smoky Dose, and you might've heard us at some point doing more improvised groove-based stuff). But EVERYBODY in this band is killer, I ain't lying.
For me this band is a chance to get back to being a percussionist, adding spice and color to the musical proceedings with shakers, bells, bongos, woodblocks, whistles, rattles, scrapers and various other items, as well as the CUICA, which I love playing but outside of this format have little chance to! Anyway, if you are a fan of samba or choro or baiao-style groove, and if you are a fan of, say Hermeto Pascoal or Tom Zé, you will LOVE Banda Choro Eletrico. Check it out.
NOTE: the venue can be a wee bit tricky to spot even when you're on its street. It's the basement level: behind a white wall, there's a staircase going down to the place, not readily noticeable at first. First floor shop of the building is a sewing/clothes repair kinda place.
