We do indeed enjoy playing at this little venue with its vintage "snack" vibe. And they have an actual piano, which is always good for us. Hope you'll come partake of the New Orleans party time sounds! We'll be dishing up tunes made famous by NOLA luminaries such as Professor Longhair, the Meters, Dr John, Fats Domino and many more, and also putting a bit of that second line spin on tunes by Little Feat, the Beatles, and others. Plus a few originals here and there. King Cake Baby! Hoo nah NAY!
Open 19:00 - Start 19:30 2000 yen entry + 1 drink And hey, we'll be bringing in some new material for y'all, some of it a bit unexpected... Ballad of a Thin Man by Dylan, Devil's Right Hand by Steve Earle, On the Road Again and Crazy by Willie Nelson, plus other surprises. Come on out, gonna be a fun hang in the vintage "snack" ambience of Hikari no Uma.

Samm & Sugar collaboration on Samm's tune Lexington Avenue Line:Sugar's blues harp is all over this one, Samm's Whole Bag of Wrong...

I can't tell you how happy I am to have the chance to hear and to make some joyful noise with Sugar Brown. The man is a force of nature. A seriously soulful blues man who doesn't get over here to Tokyo NEARLY often enough. Back when he resided here many years back, he and I made some music together here and there, and it was always a great time. He's a mean blues stylist, no lie, with serious guitar chops AND serious blues harp chops.
We'll do some solos and duos through the night, promises to be a strong evening of music. Really looking forward to this reunion. Open 19:00 - Start 19:30

Sugar's stark, minimal guitar riff is the basis for this tune of Samm's, Your Little One Way Street...

THU 6/27 : "3 SOLOS NIGHT" : Samm + Shaky + Felix at Lown (Shimokitazawa)
This will be a fun night of singing and stringing variety. Shaky Oyamada is coming out of a blues bag, and in addition to guitar, he'll have his famous canjo with him for some twngy goodness. Felix Sonnyboy is an excellent finger-picking stylist in the roots/Americana tradition, and will likely bring along his banjo as well. And yours truly Samm will be bringing my 3-stringer plus foot-stomping percussion to accompany my own songs as well as some covers.
Rough schedule, including breaks in between sets: Shaky: 19:00~20:00 Samm: 20:00~21:00 Felix: 21:00~22:00 Open 18:00 - Start 19:00

SUN 6/30 : Bennett & Gillan + Minstrels Gallery at Grand Arbre (Shoinjinja-mae)
Bennett & Gillan is the new duo unit featuring Matt Gillan (who also happens to be the piano man in King Cake Baby) on guitar and harmony vocals, and yours truly Samm on mini-percussion kit and vocal. We're doing a rather wide range of cover tunes from all eras (except the 18th Century, I don't think we have anything in our repertoire yet from that time). It'll be a double bill with the excellent Minstrel's Gallery, composed of Jean-paul and Bruce on guitars and Philippe on harmonicas. Their material leans toward roots/folk/blues/Celtic.
The cozy atmosphere and delicious food and wine at le Grand Arbre is legendarily good, so come paertake of the sounds and food and drink. No obligation to order dinner if you'd prefer to just sip on drinks, but the food is highly recommended! Open 18:00 - Start 19:00
