SUN 6/15 : King Cake Baby at What the Dickens (Ebisu) DAYTIME and NIGHT sets!
DAYTIME show: 3pm~6pm
|
Back for more of that New Orleans second-line music that you know you love, it's... King Cake Baby! Even if you don't *know* you love it... you love it. Trust us. Just come. Dance to the rollicking grooves, tap your toe, listen while smiling and nodding approvingly, whatever works for you. We'll be bringing you gems from the New Orleans R&B repertoire, like Tipitina, Basin Street Blues, Iko Iko, Working in the Coal Mine, and many many more, as well as various other numbers, covers and originals, with that New Orleans second-line flavor. And on that last point, we've got several brand new additions to the ever-expanding repertoire to lay on you Sunday DAY and NIGHT. Don'tcha miss it!
Samm Bennett on drums & vocal, Matt Gillan on piano & vocal, Hisa Nakase on bass & vocal. Bar meister John Coyle on pints & insightful commentary. |
SAT 6/21 : King Cake Baby at Frida (Nishiogikubo) for DrinkDrankDrunk
open: 19:00 / start 19:30
|
This will be the 2nd time for King Cake Baby to play Frida, it's a cool little bar with a special focus on TEQUILA (so many varieties!) and we're looking forward to being back there and doing some Mexican sipping. We will, as usual, be bringing the New Orleans second line sound, you know where it's at. We're on a triple bill with pianist/ Kaho, and pianist/singer Yuri Ikemiya Inoue and her band Swing Brothers. Pretty sure King Cake Baby is up 2nd on the bill.

THU 6/26 : Juke Joint Ghost - Hikari no Uma (Okubo)
Hikari no Uma • 大久保ひかりのうま

Juke Joint Ghost is my brand new band, one that I'm very excited about, truth be told! My musical relationship with drummer Numa Naoya goes back more than 10 years, and among other projects we've been involved with together, he was the rhythm man for my old trio the Smoke Benders. He is a superb drummer and our musical communication onstage has always been effortless and a real joy. The new kid in town, though, and who is adding some serious sonic magic to the proceedings, is pedal steel wizard Kousuke Miyashita. I've been wanting to work with a pedal steel player for decades, and now it's finally happening. I couldn't be more thrilled. Miyashita-san has that slinky, slippery sound that adds so much and is so easy to sing with! Our first gig, just last month in Chigasaki went smashingly well, and this next one promises to be every bit as good and probably better! Please try to make this one, I promise you won't regret it.

SUN 6/29 : Samm Bennett & Jean-paul Richard at Grand Arbre (Shoinjinja-mae)
I always enjoy playing solo in an intimate setting, and I'm looking forward to this double solo bill with French guitarist/singer Jean-paul Richard, who always has some new tricks up his sleeve.
The cozy atmosphere and delicious food and wine at le Grand Arbre is legendarily good, so come partake of the sounds and food and drink. No obligation to order dinner if you'd prefer to just sip on drinks, but the food is highly recommended!
open 18:00 - Start 19:00
