Open 18:30 - Showtime: 19:00 ~ 21:30 approx.
The AMAZING FLYING MACHINE will take off and soar once again, friends, at Morgan's Salon, the home-studio performance space of keyboardist Morgan Fisher. The band features the inspired, trance-like recitations and spontaneous poetic creations of Marcellus Nealy, who brings his formidable word-performance skills to bear over a shifting musical carpet of funky beats provided by bassist Koyu Suzuki and yours truly, drummer Samm Bennett. Winding his merry melodic way through the proceedings is Mitsuru Ogata on electronically-extended flute, and our special guest will be none other than the host himself, Morgan Fisher, on the keys.

FRI 6/23 : Samm SOLO + Robert Taira Wilson & Felix Sonnyboy
at Hikari No Uma, Okubo, Tokyo - open 19:00 - start 20:00 (3 sets) - entry: 2000 yen + drink
Inviting YOU to come out to the wonderful Hikari no Uma in Okubo for an evening of acoustic music featuring yours truly on the ol' three-string geetar, singing songs of trains in trouble and trouble on trains, and such. Might break out a jaw harp or two, as well.
Joining me in two other solo sets on this special evening will be none other than Felix Sonnyboy, who brings a fresh, crisp approach to country blues, ragtime and other strains of musical Americana. Felix is new in town, and if you haven't heard him yet, this is a great chance to do so. He's got a lot going on.
Rounding out the bill will be Robert Taira Wilson, a British singer and songwriter who's been making quite a name for himself on the acoustic music circuit here in Tokyo. His guitar artistry is a real pleasure to partake of: the man's got magic fingers! And his songs are mighty fine.
The vintage "snack" ambiance (crushed velvet seating, low tables and such) is a perfect setting for relaxing to some solidly good acoustic sounds, and keep in mind that there is tasty food and very good coffee on offer at Hikari no Uma, as well as the usual drinks fare.
Rough schedule:
20:00 - Felix Sonnyboy
21:00 - Samm Bennett
22:00 - Robert Taira Wilson

SAT 6/24 : KING CAKE BABY
at Quarter House, Akasaka, Tokyo
20:00 ~ 22:00 - Entry: PASS THE HAT!
20:00 ~ 22:00 - Entry: PASS THE HAT!
Time once again, friends, to take that boat to the land of dreams, heaven on earth, they call it... New Orleans! Yours truly Samm Bennett on drums and vocal, Matt G on the keys and Hisa Nakase on the bass. We play those timeless tunes made famous by Louisiana luminaries such as Dr John, Professor Longhair, the Meters, Huey "Piano" Smith and many more. Bringing in some new original tunes this time around as well, with that New Orleans flavor, naturally.
Check out King Cake Baby HERE.
Oh, and this is a new venue for us, cozier than What the Dickens, where we play with some frequency. Unlike the Dickens, there's no dancefloor at the Quarterhouse, so this one will be a little more like... *chamber New Orleans* style! There'll be a different kind of focus and intensity, and I think it's gonna be good.

at Grand Arbre restaurant, Setagaya, Tokyo
Open 18:00 - Start 19:00 - Entry: PASS THE HAT!
Open 18:00 - Start 19:00 - Entry: PASS THE HAT!
I'll be performing songs about dust, money and longing at the Grand Arbre, a casual style French restaurant which has started a music series, curated by my buddy and blues/folk enthusiast Jean-paul Richard. Looking forward to the vibe, it's apparently rather nice! The venue is located right next to Shoin-jinja-mae station on the Tokyu Setagaya line.
