FRI 3/8 : Samm Bennett SOLO
at Cafe Kick, Shimokitazawa, Tokyo
admission: two drink tickets purchase (1000 yen total)
This promises to be a whimsical evening of fun and decidedly unpretentious sonic play, with a focus on... toys. Samm will be using
an assortment of toys and unusual sound gadgets to accompany some of his more offbeat wordplay: if you want to see Samm doing something new and unexpected, you should come to this one! Also on the bill (opening and closing the evening) is Holly Lanasolyluna (see photo below!). Holly is newly arrived in Tokyo via Barcelona, Lagos and other far-flung corners of the globe. She'll be performing with toys and
such as well. Playtime! You can check out a video of one of Holly's
recent Tokyo shows here at YouTube.

SAT 3/16 : w/ Rambling Steve Gardner
and band
at What the Dickens, Ebisu, Tokyo
Samm will be providing the percussive bump and bounce for the raucous, roots-blues stylings of the fabulous Steve Gardner, a Mississippi native who somehow wound up in the wilds of Tokyo, where he is the city's most celebrated (not to mention authentic) purveyor of the country blues. Steve's shows are always big fun, and this one will be no exception! Rounding out the group will be Forrest Mitchell Nelson on bass and Robert Moreau on mandolin.

THU 3/28 : with Morgan Fisher
as part of Morgan's Organ # 100
at Super Deluxe, Azabu-Juban/Roppongi, Tokyo
As many Tokyoites know, keyboardist Morgan Fisher has an ongoing monthly concert series at Super Deluxe where he showcases any number of amazing vintage electronic keyboards from his extensive personal collection. Well, this upcoming one will be the 100th in the series, and also... the LAST! I'm honored to have Morgan ask me to take part in this one (it's normally his solo show) and extra thrilled that we'll also be joined by the amazing Keeda Oikawa, who will be doing live painting (her stuff is captivating and truly musical) throughout the evening as well. Don't miss it!

FRI 3/29 : Samm Benett solo
and many others (and you?)
at DRUNK POETS SEE GOD, vol. 3
at Bar Gari Gari, Ikenoue, Tokyo
飛田ビルB1, 2−45−9
open/start 19:00
admission: only 500 yen, plus one drink!
This will be the third installment of this (usually) monthly event. Samm and co-hosts Sorcha Chisholm and Frank Spignese are happy to be presenting poets and spoken-word performers in a relaxed and supportive setting. Samm has been providing some instantaneous musical accompaniment to some of the performers, and all are welcome to request a bit of improvised sonic background for your expounding and proclaiming! Or, just get up there and do your word thing unaccompanied, as you like! Seize the mic!

Note: Bar Gari Gari is so close to the station that it's almost funny. If you take the elevator down from Ikenoue Station (Keio Inokashira line) Gari Gari will be immediately visible when the elevator door opens. You could make it from the station to the venue
in a TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR and stay virtually dry as a bone. Yes, friends, it's that close. Wonders never cease. Ikenoue Station is only five stops past Shibuya (on the local), and one stop past Shimokitazawa.
