この企画にはかなりワクワクしています。というのも、これらの伝説的なアーティストたちは、私がまだ幼い頃から大きな影響を与えてくれた存在だからです。ビートルズがアメリカで爆発的な人気を博した1964年、当時まだ8歳にも満たなかった私は、すぐに彼らの存在を認識しました。彼らは私が音楽と初めて出会った際の大きな原点であり、まるで稲妻が落ちたような衝撃でした。ちょうどその頃、私より8歳年上の姉（だから「フォーク」シーンに精通していた）はボブ・ディランに夢中になっていて、彼女を通じて彼の初期のレコードを聴くようになりました。幼い私には、あのイギリスからやってきた4人の愉快な連中ほどの衝撃はなかったものの、彼もまた、ほぼ同じ時期に私の意識に染み込んでいったのです。それから数十年が経ち、まあ、私は紆余曲折のある音楽の道を歩み、様々な方向へと導かれてきたが、幼い頃から抱いてきた、ミネソタ州ヒビング出身のあの無精ひげの男や、リヴァプールのモップトップの若者たちへの深い愛と絆は、決して失うことはなかった。そこでここ数年、彼らの曲をカバーし始めたのだ。そして、そのほとんどを、まあ、かなり違ったやり方で演奏している。いわば、自分なりの色を添えているわけだ。そもそも、なぜ彼らが最初にやった通りのやり方でやろうとする必要があるだろうか？たとえそれが「再現」できたとしても、私には興味がない。そう、フランク・シナトラが言うように、私は「マイ・ウェイ」でやってきました。この特別なイベントでは、ビートルズとディランのキャリア全編にわたる数々の曲を、そして…私のやり方で披露します！ぜひ聴きに来ていただければ幸いです。
I'm quite excited about this one, because these legendary artists were major influences since I was a very young child. The Beatles, when they exploded in the USA, were on my radar straightaway, starting in 1964, when I was no more than 8 years of age. They were a big part of my earliest introduction to music, a lightning bolt that struck. And right about the same time, my older sister (8 years older than me and therefore tuned in to the "folk" scene) was deep into Bob Dylan, and through her I heard his earliest records, and though as a little child they didn't hit me with the same force as those 4 fun guys from England, he still seeped into my consciousness right around the same time. Fast forward a few decades, and, well, I've followed a twisty-curvy musical path that has taken me in many different directions, but I've never lost the deep love and connection from my earliest years to the scraggly guy from Hibbing Minnesota and the mop top lads from Liverpool. So over the last few years I started covering some of their songs. And doing most of them in, well, a rather different way. Putting my stamp on them, as it were. Cause why would I try to do them the way they were done in the first place? Not interested in *recreation*, even if I *could* do it. So, yeah, as Sinatra says, I did it my way. So for this special event, I'll be doing a plethora of Beatles and Dylan tunes from all across their career arcs, and doing them... my way! I sincerely hope you'll come and listen.
