INTERNATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC MUSIC NIGHT
I'm happy to announce this very special event. My old friend Mr Jeff Greene is here in Japan for the 10th International Jew's Harp Conference and Festival, happening in Hokkaido. We'll be performing together there, and as a warm-up, I decided to book us a gig here in Tokyo, at the wonderful Black Bird Eatery and performance space. We'll be doing duets using a great number of different jaw harps and mouth bows from our respective collections, plus some percussion, vocals, and a squeezy pig or two! We're taking a very *Americana* approach to what we're doing with these instruments, since, after all, we're both American, and the mouth bow and jaw harp definitely hold a place in the pantheon of American folk instruments and the folk music tradition, particularly in the Appalachian region.
Joining us for the evening's musical offerings will be Eiji Kamada, who specializes in the Tuvan instrument the Igil, a two (or three) stringed bowed instrument. He is a practitioner of the Khoomei style of overtone singing, and he's damn good at all of it! Kamada-san will likely be bringing some of his own jaw harp virtuosity to the stage as well.
