Old Matchbook Graphics (page 2)
Hello friends, Samm Bennett here. I love that certain crude quality that the old matchbooks had, from the 1930/40s and continuing through the 1950s/60s. The bold colors (often looking like silk screen printing), the handmade art they featured (often so reminiscent of classic sign painting), the cheerfully rendered trucks, buses and taxicabs, ladies in martini glasses, bowling pins, beer, vacation destinations... the restaurant and nightclub matchbooks with their generic messages: "Sizzling Steaks and Chops", "World's Best Coffee", "We Specialize in Seafood", "Delicious Cocktails" and suchlike. It all strikes me as folk art of the highest caliber! Hope you enjoy this gallery I've curated, and check back again another time for new entries, added almost daily!

NOTE: This and all the other galleries here at my website feature images or historical items I find worthy of interest in one way or another, and I hope you will find something(s) here that interest you as well. I spend a great deal of time collecting and compiling these materials, which you are free to enjoy at your leisure. Should you want to support me in these efforts, and/or my musical efforts which you'll find plenty of here at the website, I do hope you'll consider making a donation (however small!) via PayPal to help sustain these activities. The PayPalMe link is HERE. Thanks!
