18:30 Open - 19:30 - 20:30 Samm Bennett / 20:50 - 21:50 Anna Vieste & Dead Flower Children Free entrance, please order 1 drink (and/or food!) + pass the hat for the performers!
18:30 Open - 19:30 - 20:30 Samm Bennett / 20:50 - 21:50 Anna Vieste & Dead Flower Children Free entrance, please order 1 drink (and/or food!) + pass the hat for the performers!
This promises to be a really fun night. The theme is 60s and 70s-era rock and soul music, so it's an evening of strictly covers! I'll be offering up one-string versions of tunes by The Band, Otis Redding, David Bowie, Wilson Pickett, Chuck Berry, the Beatles and more. And appearing on the bill with me will be an acoustic outing by local Tokyo band the Dead Flower Children, who specialize in that kind of vintage covers thing. So, don't miss it!

FRI 9/16 : MEDICINE BONE - last concert!
at Hikari No Uma, Okubo, Tokyo
19:00 open 20:00 start - entry: 2000 yen + 1 drink
19:00 open 20:00 start - entry: 2000 yen + 1 drink
Well, friends, some of you may recall our announcement that our show back in mid-July would be Medicine Bone's LAST (for the foreseeable future) because half the band (that would be Mr. Ken Shima) was going back to sunny California for a year or two, to catch one of those big waves that roll in from time to time. Well, that trip got postponed a bit, but... this time it's for real. Really really. This'll be your LAST chance to catch the duo of Ken Shima and Samm Bennett known and loved throughout the world as "Medicine Bone". Let me give you that all-caps word one more time:LAST.
So, come come getcha summa that good medicine, those North Mississippi Hill Country-inspired blues that we do. And, bid Ken a fond farewell. Feel free to buy him a drink.
We'll be shaking the sugar down with two full sets, at one of our favorite spots, the old converted "snack" in Okubo (16 seconds walk from JR Okubo station's South Exit) known as Hikari No Uma.

I just recently discovered the wonderful LOWN, an intimate and comfortable venue very conveniently located in Shimokitazawa. This will be my first time to play there, and I'll be doing a solo set of original tunes and a few covers, on the famous one-string guitar and maybe the three-stringer as well... Joining me on the bill will be guitarist (and sometimes singer) Jean-paul Richard, who has a refreshing and original take on blues and Americana, with some fun tunes from his native France and a bit of Irish flavor thrown in for good measure. (Some of you might have seen Jean-paul on one of his shows with our mutual friend and cohort Rambling Steve Gardner).
Along with the two solo sets, Jean-paul and I are working up a bit of material to do as a duo, some come and see how that unfolds! It'll be a good night's entertainment, guaranteed.
