The Bridge is a monthly series featuring songwriters based in Tokyo, Chiba, Saitama, and Kanagawa. Held at Infinity Books & Event Space, you can enjoy the cozy atmosphere with a pint of beer and browse for books between sets. Unlike other live shows around Tokyo, The Bridge hosts a Q&A session with the featured artist so you can learn more about their songwriting process and unique experiences.

This is gonna be a full on rocking trio y'all, with solidly funky bassist Shimaji Masahico and psych-guitar maestro Tabata Mitsuru, with yours truly thumping the tubs and doing a wee bit of vocalizing here and there. Several other cool acts on the bill in this action packed evening, including a new unit from Cal Lyall and friends called Terminal Turistas. All at the wonderful Bonobo.

SAT 9/16 : on percussion with BANDA CHORO ELETRICO
at Coco Palm, Nishi-Ogikubo, Tokyo
start: 16:15 (afternoon show!)
As part of VAMOS! Festival of Brazilian Music
BANDA CHORO ELETRICO is a big, ecstatic and totally grooving Brazilian music unit led by bassist and composer extraordinaire Sawada Jyoji. The full membership clocks in at about, oh, 15 musicians or so, and includes brilliant flutist Ogata Mitsuru and slamming drummer Numa Noaya. (Numa-san and Sawada-san happen to be members of The Smoky Dose, and you might've heard us at some point doing more improvised groove-based stuff). But EVERYBODY in this band is killer, I ain't lying.
For me this band is a chance to get back to being a percussionist, adding spice and color to the musical proceedings with shakers, bells, bongos, woodblocks, whistles, rattles, scrapers and various other items, as well as the CUICA, which I love playing but outside of this format have little chance to! Anyway, if you are a fan of samba or choro or baiao-style groove, and if you are a fan of, say Hermeto Pascoal or Tom Zé, you will LOVE Banda Choro Eletrico. Check it out.
