Master guitarist and improvisor Uchihashi Kazuhisa and I have made a lot of joyful noise together over the years, and I'm very much looking forward to this next musical meeting. He is quite simply one of my very favorite players to improvise with, and one big reason for that is his keen rhythm sense: the guy is a groove machine. Another thing I love about him is the staggering variety of sounds he coaxes out of his guitar through his extremely adept use of pedals and effectors of all kinds.
As for myself, I'll be using a renovated electronic percussion set up, with expanded sound potential.
By the way, Uchi and I are about to embark on a new trio project (patterned after the Third Person concept of a different third member each time we play) but this upcoming show will be simply a duo. Watch for the trio project coming in December!

SAT 10/7 : Solo SONGS at Infinity Books (Asakusa)
This will be a full evening of original songs and a number of cover tunes. I've been enjoying doing covers lately, and I always try to put my own spin on them, something that takes the song into some different territory.
Those of you who are familiar with my song work will know that I am writing new stuff all the time, so this show will feature tunes you've never heard, guaranteed! And some older tunes that, like fine wine, just get better with age! Hope you can make it to this one, as Infinity is a good place to really listen. Intimate, friendly vibe, and although it's a book store, there is indeed a bar with good tap beer (usually 2 or 3 varieties on hand) and some other drinks available. Music from 19:30 to 22:00 No entry charge, it's PASS THE HAT for the music Infinity Books website

FRI 11/3 : KING CAKE BABY (plus the Nanometers!) at Oil City (Asagaya)
This will be the 4th time (I think) that King Cake Baby has played the intimate venue in Asagaya known as Oil City. We like it there, the sound system is good, and the vibe is always really lively! As ever, we'll be bringing those Second Line sounds for your head bobbing, toe tapping enjoyment, with a mix of New Orleans classics like Tipitina, Iko Iko, Blow Wind Blow, St James Infirmary and many more, plus tunes from outside the New Orleans R&B tradition but given a Second Line spin, if you know what I mean. One After 909, Hey Good Lookin', Kansas City and others, in our hands, undergo transformations into bona fide Mardi Gras-style excursions. And we'll be bringing selections from our ever-increasing repertoire of original numbers, in the same New Orleans spirit. Didi I mention New Orleans, by the way?

And with us on the bill will be New Orleans-style music purveyors the Nanometers. They're a really fun band, and with a different slant than King Cake Baby, so it's a good pairing.

SUN 11/5 : KING CAKE BABY at What the Dickens (Ebisu)
King Cake Baby returns to the Dickens! As ever, we'll be bringing those Second Line sounds for your head bobbing, toe tapping AND actual DANCING enjoyment, since the venue boasts a dance floor. We usually always get 'em shaking it on the floor there with a mix of New Orleans classics like Tipitina, Iko Iko, Blow Wind Blow, Junko Partner and many more, plus tunes from outside the New Orleans R&B tradition but given a Second Line spin, if you know what I mean.
Hope you can make it! The Dickens is noted for its good variety of fresh pints on tap (plus full bar, of course) AND for its English pub food like meat pies, fish & chips, and more. |

SUN 11/12 : Solo SONGS at What the Dickens (Ebisu)
This will be a full evening of original songs and cover tunes. I've been enjoying doing covers lately, and I always try to put my own spin on them, something that takes the song into some different territory. And in fact, at The Dickens especially, my recent plan of action has been to continually alternate between originals and covers, throughout the night.
Those of you who are familiar with my song work will know that I am writing new stuff all the time, so this show will feature tunes you've never heard, guaranteed! And some older tunes that, like fine wine, just get better with age! Hope you can make it! The Dickens is noted for its good variety of fresh pints on tap (plus full bar, of course) AND for its English pub food like meat pies, fish & chips, and more. Music from 20:00 to 23:00 or thereabouts No entry charge What the Dickens website
